(598) Abus Picked & Gutted

My vises are made by Panavise, a U.S. Company.  The one with the wide jaws is the model 350.  The smaller one is the model 301. Both have the 312 Base mount – www.panavise.com

  1. Bill, what thickness is the pick you used? I just got an Abus just like this (no key) and I can’t get my hook past the warding. It’s a .025″ short hook. I have to lever it off the warding which is a bit tricky. Mine only has five pins with spools in 2 and 4. I use a city rake (barely fits over the warding) to get a false set and then pick the two spools.

  2. Bosnianbill I just got a best lock and I'm not trying to pick it. The core is sticky. I have to push very very hard to get the key in and it doesn't always want to turn easily. I don't know how to loosen it up do you have any recommendation. Also the control key requires you to turn hard before the core will turn and let you pull it out.

  3. Nice tricky Lock, and a good pick!

Just a good and cheap trick to demagnetise: just you hold your tweezers close to a connected electric transformator (than it should start vibrating a bit), wait a little bit of time, and pull then the tweezers slooooooowly away from the transf., until you've reached a distance of 3, ore more, feet away from the el. transformer, than turn him off, and test, the magnetic reaction, and repeat the action if necessary.

It could help but I cannot guarantee anything.
