(1251) K1’s “Barn Burner” Challenge

LockLab is Fan funded!  Help pay for stuff to review, break and talk trash about, and maybe even give away when we’re done.  Join the Tribe!

My vises are made by Panavise, a U.S. Company.  The one with the wide jaws is the model 350.  The smaller one is the model 301. Both have the 312 Base mount – www.panavise.com

  1. This is something I have noticed with several of the “challenge” locks people are sending in. I notice a lot of filing of the top of the cylinder over the key pin holes. By doing this you are making it a whole lot easier to pick your locks. The clearance between the cylinder and the bible are critical in maintaining security. You are defeating the tolerances that are what make a lot of these locks secure. For instance, if you are using locks with pins that are in the .003 ratios, and you file the top of the cylinder down .015 you have just made it so 5 different pin depths will ALL work for that pin position. The notch you have filed acts as a “ramp” for the driver pin.
I am not trying to discourage anybody, I am simply trying to help educate for those that do not realize what those filings are doing. Keep the challenges coming. And as Bill says, “stay safe, stay legal”. Bravo on a wonderful and educational site BosnianBill.

    1. Start from Video #1 and watch them all as many of us have done and/or followed
Chief of the Tribe, BosnianBill from the beginning. It may take a long time but worth millions in a wealth of picking knowledge !!

  2. There are anti bark shock collars. Obtain one. Throw the shock mechanism in the trash. Use the bark sensing bits to trigger a pneumatic solenoid. Use the pneumatic solenoid to control an air horn. Every time the dogs bark the horn blasts and irritates your neighbor as equally as his barking dogs irritate you.
