    I love your shows, I am in awe of your opening graphics. Whom ever you have doing them is a master. If it’s you, I bow in respect. I’ve learned a great deal about locks as to what works and what doesn’t. I used to think that we had tough locks in the US. After watching your challenge lock shows, I’m much smarter

  6. Okay, jokes about not being able to keep the key up and snagging the key notwithstanding, that's one impressive design.  Shame the manufacturer seems to have vanished – perhaps one of the most secure locks made in the US, and they disappear like flatus in a stiff wind.

  7. A bunch of my students in China had these keys back in 2008. I thought it was the coolest thing ever, and for them it was just a normal lock. They've seen these before and have been using them for a while! Still have not seen this in Canada yet.

    from No. 9, Floor 2, Alley 2, Lane 437, Nei-Hu Rd., Sec. 1, Nei-Hu Dist., Taipei, TW.
    Just google for ["Yun-Tung Hsu" patents], and you find them all.

  9. Could this be bumped with a key that is flexible too?
    The difficulty would be to find the right springiness. It has to be flexible enough to serpentine to the back, but springy enough to transmit motion energy when bumped.

    1. You’ve got the right idea..

      I’d build a bump key that is effectively this key ground down to the lowest possible value, and then using a string, I’d glue it to the blue bit (long string) and then jerk it out super fast..

      I guess I’d also have to grind off the bottom bit of the key too, so that we can get a tension wrench in there.

      Chances are that this would work pretty fast. I don’t see any indication of high security other than the super odd keyway.

  10. I've recently started watching a lot of lock videos, and it seems liek the main flaw with lock security in terms of how easily picked they are, is that most of them are dependant on a linear movement for the key insertion, which this avoids using a very intuitave method.

    I was just wondering if there are any locks that use an insertion channel for the key that is based around a dome, to effectively have two axis of curvature, essentially using a key shaped like a sickle but with a blade that also has some form of curvature perpendicular to the direction of insertion.

I remember this lock thing, they were havily advertised in TV etc. in Germany between 1993 and 2004ish, people said it had a weakness to freezing water because it was so intricately designed so it would break open because of that, permanently damaging the lock. not sure if that is true though

  12. just make a flexible plastic bump key or rake. the locks design will help you pick it once you get some thing in there. it looks pretty intimidating, and its novel for sure but this shouldnt be so hard. im not a smith by any means, but just the basoc concepts ive learned here tell me that a plastic flexible pick and a tension wrench are all that is needed. well, maybe more than one pick, but you get what i mean.

  13. This lock was invented by a Taiwanese man named Yun-Tung Hsu (HYT). The US patent number for this lock is 5671623 if someone wants to take a closer look how it works.
